Safety

I have full public liability and professional indemnity insurance. Your child's comfort and safety is my top priority. I am a proud member of BANPAS (Baby and Newborn Photography Association) and use composite images where appropriate. I take very seriously your baby’s safety and understand everything about hygiene, heating and baby handling needed to ensure the safety and comfort of the baby during the photo session. I have also attended a two day Paediatric First Aid Course with the British Red Cross.

As a newborn and baby photographer I have to take the safety of my little clients very seriously. It might surprise you to know that the newborn photography industry is completely unregulated. Photographers like me who take safety seriously have to take it upon ourselves to be trained and educated on how to ensure the beautiful images we create are done safely.

For example, when you see beautiful images like this:

The finished photo after the composite has been done on PhotoshopHead in Hands CompositeFinal edit of the Hand in Hands pose. NB This is a composite shot made by combining 2 photos. The baby is never left unsupported.

You might be forgiven for thinking that the baby here was unsupported, but actually I create this image using two different images. Here are some of the before images used to create the final art.

Head in Hands Before Photo 1Head in Hands Before Photo 1This is the first of the before photos for the pose that we call 'Head in Hands'. The weight of the baby's head is being held by the assistant from above. Head in Hands Before Photo 2Head in Hands Before Photo 2This is the second photo required to complete the pose we call Head in Hands. Here the assistant is supporting the weight of the babies hand from beneath.

Being a newborn and baby photographer requires a unique set of skills and there is a worldwide organisation that exists to support photographers like me who want to have access to safety training and resources that we can use to provide clients like you with a better service.

I am delighted to have joined BANPAS (Baby and Newborn Photography Association) and you will be able to find me on their directory of photographers. They also have a fabulous Facebook page for pregnant and new parents here

I would be delighted to chat to you about how I can create a beautiful gallery of images for your newborn and very happy to chat to you about how I do that safely. Please contact me for booking and availability information.
